Biography: David Connolly
Musical Theatre and Variety
This Canadian born talent was performing on Broadway at age 19 and has since become one of the most highly sought-after Director/Choregraphers in the country. Feature film credits include 'Bollywood/Hollywood' (Genie Award, Best Original Screenplay) and the soon to be released 'Republic of Love'.
While living for seven years in Los Angeles, David worked as a choreographer for ABC 'Me and My Shadows: The Judy Garland Story' (record number of Emmy Nominations given to a mini-series, Golden Globe), NBC 'The Miss America Pageant' 1995-1997 (Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography) and CBS The 1997 Jerry Lewis Telethon (Emmy Award nominations Choreography).
He has worked with musical artists including Sarah Brightman (Canadian Launch of 'Harem'), kd lang, Brandi, Deborah Cox, Geri Halliwel, Chicago The Band and Jennifer Holiday, as well as for Holland America and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines; and for Harrah’s and Luxor Casinos.
Also heavily involved in the musical theatre world, Connolly has been Director/Choreographer of critically acclaimed North American productions of 'The King & I', 'On the Town', 'Baby', 'Swingtime Canteen', 'Evita', 'Chess', 'Crazy For You' and the New York premier of a show he wrote called 'Another Op’nin’, Another Show'.
David’s ongoing commitment to charity work has included directing the pre-show to Elton John’s 'The Concert in LA’s Universal Amphitheatre'; being Co-Producer/Choreographer for seven years of 'MAC Viva Glam Fashion Cares' Toronto and Vancouver, (Canada’s Premiere AIDS fundraiser); 'The Ribbon of Life' in Las Vegas; one of the inaugural producers of the Stratford Festival’s 'Night For Life'; and for the closing ceremonies of 'the Greater Las Vegas Inner City Games' to benefit inner city youth.
He is an adjudicator for American Dance Awards, Professional Development Clinician at Butler College in Kansas and Vandercook College in Chicago as well as instructor for Vancouver’s 'Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance'.
He is the recipient of the Premier of Ontarios Award for excellence in his profession and commitment to his community as well as an adjunct professorship of Music Theatre from his alma mater, Sheridan College, It is at Sheridan that David is the benefactor of The David Connolly Apprenticeship Training Program Award for aspiring Director/Choreographers.
