Biography: Sharon MooreModernSharon lives in her birth town of Toronto where she works as a choreographer, actor, teacher and dancer. She began dancing at the age of seventeen and went on to graduate as a scholarship student at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She is a former member of Contemporary Dancers of Canada under the direction of Tedd Robinson. She has danced for numerous independent choreographers including Rachel Browne, Murray Darroch, Gail Peterson-Hiley, Terrill McGuire, Judith Miller, Mauricio Wainrot. Sharon's choreographic work has been seen in theatres across Canada. " Exotic, erotic, intelligent and relentlessly kinetic"( Edmonton Journal); "Beautiful, Athletic and Spiritual"(Winnipeg Free Press); "Beckett does dance" (The Craig, Victoria). She has created commissions for programs such as Contemporary Dancers “New Creation Series" and Toronto Dance Theatres’ “Woman at the Winch". In October of 2001 her work Iinterrupted Prayers" represented Canada in Almada Portugal at the Internacional Festival da Danca. While in Winnipeg Sharon co-founded the dance collectives; Three Square Pegs, The S.S.P. and the physical theatre company known as “E.T.C...” with Winnipeg Director B. Pat Burns. She has created over forty choreographic works for professional training programs in Canada and is proud to be a guest faculty choreographer at both The School of The Toronto Dance Theatre and The School of Contemporary Dancers (five and eleven years respectively). Her repertoire of original choreographies over 40 including 4 full evenings shows. Currently she is creating two new works for Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre, where she was recently appointed Artist in Residence for 2003, as well as new commissions for TILT SOUND + MOTION, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and P.B.J. Dance. In the summer of 2002 she began rehearsal for her new 70 minute work, “Salting The Earth” with support from The Canada Council and The Toronto Arts Council. The work will premiere in the summer of 2004 with an original live score by composer Derek Aasland. Sharon's recent acting credits include roles in theatre pieces by Canadian playwrights Carol Shields("Anniversary") and Gerry Atwell (Soul in Ice) . Most recently she played Miss A in Theatre Anywhere's production of David Mamet's “The Shawl”. |
